Resonant spin amplification of hole spin dynamics in twodimensional hole systems: experiment and simulation
Spins in semiconductor structures may allow for the realization of scalable quantum bit arrays, an essential component for quantum computation schemes. Specifically, hole spins may be more suited for this purpose than electron spins, due to their strongly reduced interaction with lattice nuclei, which limits spin coherence for electrons in quantum dots. Here, we present resonant spin amplificat...
متن کاملHole spin dynamics and valence-band spin excitations in two-dimensional hole systems
In recent years, the spin dynamics and spin–orbit interaction in GaAs-based two-dimensional hole systems (2DHS) have created a lot of attention. This is due to the complex structure of the valence band, with its p-like character, which leads to strong spin–orbit coupling. In this paper, we review our recent studies on hole spin dynamics and valence-band spin excitations in GaAs-based, p-modulat...
متن کاملPersistent Spin Textures in Semiconductor Nanostructures
Device concepts in semiconductor spintronics make long spin lifetimes desirable, and the requirements put on spin control by schemes of quantum information processing are even more demanding. Unfortunately, due to spin-orbit coupling electron spins in semiconductors are generically subject to rather fast decoherence. In two-dimensional quantum wells made of zinc-blende semiconductors, however, ...
متن کاملControlling hole spin dynamics in twodimensional hole systems at low temperatures
With the recent discovery of very long hole spin decoherence times in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures of more than 70 ns in two-dimensional hole systems, using the hole spin as a viable alternative to electron spins in spintronic applications seems possible. Furthermore, as the hyperfine interaction with the nuclear spins is likely to be the limiting factor for electron spin lifetimes in zero dime...
متن کاملSpin Dynamics of Electrons and Holes in p-Doped InAs/GaAs Quantum Dots
We have investigated the electron and hole spin dynamics in p-doped semiconductor InAs/GaAs quantum dots by time resolved photoluminescence. We observe a decay of the average electron spin polarisation down to 1/3 of its initial value with a characteristic time of T∆ ≈ 500ps. We attribute this decay to the hyperfine interaction of the electron spin with randomly orientated nuclear spins. Magnet...
